The Tanzanian Volleyball Federation (TVF) has announced its ambitious plans for 2025, aiming to boost volleyball development across the country. The strategy, revealed in Dar es Salaam, focuses on youth engagement, infrastructure upgrades, and international competitions. These efforts are set to strengthen Tanzania’s position in African volleyball.
Strategic Goals for 2025
The TVF’s 2025 plan is built on three key pillars: grassroots development, facility improvements, and competitive growth. The federation aims to increase participation and elevate Tanzania’s volleyball profile regionally and globally. Below is an overview of the main objectives:
Objective | Description | Timeline |
---|---|---|
Grassroots Programs | Launch volleyball clinics in 10 regions, targeting 5,000 young players | January–June |
Infrastructure Upgrades | Renovate 3 key volleyball courts in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, and Arusha | March–October |
International Competitions | Host the East African Volleyball Championship and participate in CAVB events | July–December |
Grassroots Development and Youth Engagement
To grow the sport, the TVF will introduce volleyball clinics in schools across 10 regions, including Zanzibar, Mwanza, and Kilimanjaro. These clinics will train young athletes aged 12–18 and provide coaching resources. The federation has partnered with local schools to integrate volleyball into physical education programs.
“We want to inspire the next generation of players,” said Amina Msuya, TVF President. “By bringing volleyball to schools, we’re building a foundation for long-term success.”
Infrastructure Improvements
The TVF plans to upgrade three major volleyball facilities in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, and Arusha. The renovations will include modernized courts, improved seating, and better lighting to meet international standards. The federation has secured funding from the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, which allocated TZS 519.66 billion for sports development in the 2025/26 fiscal year.
These upgrades aim to provide better training environments and attract regional tournaments. The renovated courts will also support the hosting of the East African Volleyball Championship in August 2025.
Competitive Aspirations
Tanzania is set to host the East African Volleyball Championship in Dar es Salaam from August 15–20, 2025. The event will feature teams from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi. Additionally, the TVF plans to send men’s and women’s teams to the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Beach Volleyball Youth Development Cup in Banjul, Gambia, from August 22–24, 2025.
“Hosting and competing in these events will showcase Tanzania’s potential,” said Coach Juma Kigoto. “We’re preparing our teams to make a strong impact.”
Context and Challenges
Volleyball in Tanzania has faced challenges, including limited funding and outdated facilities. However, recent government investments and growing public interest in sports, driven by events like the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations preparations, have created opportunities. The TVF’s 2025 plan builds on this momentum to address past gaps and promote sustainable growth.
Next Steps
The TVF will begin implementing its 2025 plan in January, starting with the rollout of grassroots clinics. These efforts are expected to boost volleyball’s popularity and prepare Tanzania for a stronger presence in African competitions.
